This week, I had more orientation, took a Basic Life Support class, did blood draws in the lab and got that checked off, and spent my first day on a med-surg floor. I got to do discharge teaching by myself...for the first time! Felt like a nurse! I'm surprised at how much has stayed with me after nursing school. I was worried that I would be very rusty since it has been months since I finished school, but I'm doing just fine! I enjoyed being on the floor and am even more eager to get on my own unit! I got to meet the Captain this week...she is over all of nursing in my hospital. That was really cool!
Beyond that, I am finding that Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is a city! On the campus, there is a full bank, several ATMs, Pizza Hut, Subway, a sushi place, other places to eat, a small Navy Exchange (store) that carries some uniform items too, a GNC, a gym, a pool, and the list goes on! It's crazy...I could live there and have everything I need. I also get my own medical care there too...it's cool! There are definite advantages to working there...everything I need is at my fingertips. There is also a library where I can do some printing and work on their computers. I like it a lot!
Yesterday, I worked out with the other nurse residents. We are required to work out each week together...and it looks like I'll be doing that twice a week with them. It is more motivating than working out alone, but today...I am very sore! I wasn't thinking we would do a push-up, pull-up workout! My goal for the next PFA (Physical Fitness Assessment) is to get outstanding/maximum in every section. We'll see! It's good to have goals!
Beyond that, I went to Bible study this week...awesome as usual! Lots to think about since we talked about what it means to be laborers in the Kingdom of God...you know...the difference between those who profess to believe and those who actually live out their faith. It was interesting, challenging, and inspiring...lots for me to think about this weekend...but I definitely want to be someone who doesn't just say I believe in something without having it change everything about who I am.
Other than that...last night...I went out with a friend from Bible study. We ate at this little place in Portsmouth and it was so cute...and just felt so good to hang out with a friend!
I should go soon...since I'm in the middle of making pot roast for tonight. Can't wait to see my sister-in-law and brother...and meet my little nephew! :-) What a good weekend!!!
