After my last post of the day when nothing went right...things got better! I got to catch up on some much-needed sleep, work on stuff around my apartment, and just relax a bit. I spent Thursday evening shadowing the "Nurse of the Day (NOD)" at the hospital. In a civilian hospital, this position would be called the House Supervisor. Basically, she is in charge of making sure that staffing is adequate in all departments and also responds to any major issues in throughout the hospital. The most exciting part of the night was the "Code Red" or fire. There was an actual fire in the parking garage. A truck caught on fire and had filled up the whole garage with smoke. I got to see the fire trucks and firemen hooking up the hoses and running into the garage. That was the most interesting part of the evening. I enjoyed my day with the NOD...she was really great to spend time with and talk to. I also got to see a lot of the hospital since that job makes you run all over the place.
On Friday...I only had to go to Grand Rounds with the other residents and then got to come home and relax. I get a three-day weekend and am looking forward to spending some time with friends. These next few weeks, I will be only on the maternal-child units. Next week is NICU week...so excited! Only three weeks of residency left!
