It's been a crazy week...what else is new!? I learned so much working on the med-surg unit. I had fantastic preceptors and that makes all the difference! I'm now much more independent in my nursing practice and that feels good. I was trained well! I enjoyed being on that unit...but am so excited and ready to return to the maternal-child area. After this coming week, I will spend three weeks on postpartum, labor and delivery, and in the NICU before being put on my permanent unit. Four weeks to go in residency...so ready!
We now have a requirement to PT (exercise--physical training), in the mornings three times per week before we get on the floor. Typically, we meet at 0530 to workout. We had some unusual workouts this week. The most unusual was having to carry a stretcher with about 120 pounds of gear on it around the track and lift it over this 6-foot tall fence without spilling the contents. That thing was so heavy and awkward to carry for all of us! I was sore for two days! I have also done an inordinate amount of push-ups this week. I'm hoping that it pays off and that I do well in our upcoming physical readiness test. I'm going to swim it...and have been practicing. I really like the pool on base. It's cool because I'll be swimming and then look out the big window which covers the whole north wall and there's a huge ship anchored right outside! Doesn't get that much better than that!
Beyond all of that, I am currently enjoying a quiet Sunday...catching up on Eastlake's sermons online (really good ones on technology for those interested http://eastlakecc.com/services/), cooking/baking, and squaring away my apartment and everything for the coming week. Also, I'm listening to Hillsong United's new album and I love it!
To end with, I feel very blessed--with my home, good family/friends, and a faith that enables me to get through anything and gives hope. I'm so thankful that my life has a purpose and as wonderful as this life is...I'm grateful that it's not all there is.

Lastly, Please pray for the government right now and for those who are out of work because of the shutdown...this affects everyone and puts a lot of strain on those people and their families who are out of work.
God Bless!
